About 60 students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), narrowly escaped death on Thursday, following a mysterious fire that engulfed a Shuttle bus conveying them from the institution to the city.
The bus caught fire, few metres away from the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), Enugu and the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA), Enugu.
Although there were no deaths, many of the students and other passengers sustained serious injuries in the near stampede that resulted while escaping to safety through the widows and other exit available spaces in the bus.
Valuables including Laptops and handsets belonging to the students were also completely destroyed by the fire.
According to reports, the timely alert by detached policemen from Independence Layout, Enugu, saved the lives of the students.
One of the survivors, Vivian, narrated how
the security operatives suddenly stopped the driver, raising the alarm that fire was oozing out from the vehicle.
“We were saved by God through the policemen who were coming behind us. They stopped our vehicle and shouted to us to come down quickly. We jumped out. I thank God nobody died in the inferno,” she said.
Another survivor, Ebere Okechi said “I lost my Nokia phone, all the passengers inside the vehicle did not know that the shuttle bus was burning, outsiders were shouting fire, fire before we started jumping out from the bus.”
Confirming the incident, the coordinator of the Coal City Shuttle Bus, Nnaemeka Ojibe, said the fire was caused by faulty battery.

Suspected Boko Haram members, yesterday, attacked Garubula Village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The terrorists killed the district head, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi, his bodyguard, and 14 others, Vanguard reports.
Eyewitnesses stated that, “the gunmen stormed the village in pick-up van and several motorcycles and opened fire on the people.”

Today is Jude Okoye and Ify Umeokeke‘s traditional wedding in Nnewi, Anambra.
Lot of celebs are present including Paul Okoye – one half of the P-Square gang but the other half Peter Okoye decided to skip the wedding.
Maybe it’s a revenge of what Jude did to him in November 2013, when Peter and Lola Omotayo got married, Jude did not attend the ceremony, but attended the wedding of Paul and Anita Isama.
After Peter posted this image of himself not at the event, his fans blasted him.

Dr. Pat is not a new name in the industry, he is popularly called the Kondo master as a result of his widely accepted hot track, ‘Hotter Than Fire’ which was a master song.
Having left the music scene, he returned with a new single, Anaconda which is presently enjoying air-play and taking over the clubs.
Not relenting, Dr. Pat is set to drop another hit single, In The Club on May 28, 2014. He talks more on how the journey was while he was off the scene, his recent singles and his plans in a recent interview.
Excerpts Below:
BEING OFF THE SCENE
Yes, I’ve been away from the scene for quite sometime because I’ve been in the USA working and doing music because that’s what I love to do. At the same time, being in America is like a cleansing and healing therapy for me.
Basically, my being in the states is just to get my mind back to where its supposed to be so I would be able to refocus and get back on the scene the right way this time around.
ABOUT ANACONDA
Basically, few years back I dropped Hotter Than Fire and there was a phrase which stood out in that song which everybody called Kondo.
And due to the fact that the phrase was so strong at that time, a whole lot of artistes tapped into the phrase; which is good. At the end of the day, people decided to tag me not just Dr Pat anymore, but Dr Pat a.k.a Kondo Master.
Then I decided to come up with something bigger and different in its own way, so I laid back and thought about it and the Anaconda thing came to play. I started writing and putting it together in such a way that it would be a song anyone could listen to, dance to and enjoy. I also had to consider the trend of music in Nigeria now because I’ve not been in the country for quite sometime.
Putting the song together was great because I had Young D around in America to stay with me for sometime. Actually, he came around with his wife to be delivered of their baby boy, so we were together for almost three months. During the time we were together, we came up with great songs and one of them was Anaconda.
“IN THE CLUB”, THE NEW WORK
In The Club is the song we are dropping on May 28, 2014, it is a follow-up to Anaconda.
In The Club is characterised by Afro Hip Hop, vocal harmonies, hand claps, prominent electric guitar riffs, bright synthesizers, a homogeneous sound and message.
The song is Produced by beat technician “Young D” during his three months stay In the U.S.
I won’t talk much on it, but expect the best from In The Club.
PENNING MORE SONGS
Dr. Pat is a brand that a whole lot of fans out there haven’t really realized. People need to know how big a brand Dr Pat is as a person and as an artiste. Also, Dr pat will be coming up with more singles. I’ve been out of the scene and I really need to refresh people’s memory because the last time people heard from me was when I released Hotter Than Fire, so I need to drop more singles for my fans out there.
NO ALBUM YET IN VIEW
Not really, because right now I’m just trying to re-register myself back into the minds of my fans and I need more singles in order to reunite with all my fans.
So right now it’s all about dropping hit singles and then I’ll probably look into dropping an album towards the end of the year or probably the beginning of next year.
GREATEST CHALLENGE
My greatest challenge has been getting back on my feet because we fall once in a lifetime and we work really hard to get back up. Achieving greater heights in life isn’t always very easy, we encounter highs and lows and falling down in the midst of all these brings one back to the bottom of ones career.
But when you put in your best to climb the ladder once again, there’s joy. I’ve been through so much and I’m getting back on my feet.
SELF ASSESSMENT
Basically, I’m so far from being successful but one thing I’d say is that I thank GOD for my life and for where I am right now.
But in my wildest dream, I see myself beyond just being successful. my team and I are working really hard to get there. Right now we are still a little fish in the big ocean trying to become a shark.
AWAY FROM MUSIC
I work like every other person, I work as a fire safety director in America and it’s a 9am – 5pm job, but music is everything to me, it’s my heart, my goal, my passion. I’m sure when next I’m asked these questions I’d have much more answers for you.
HAPPIEST MOMENT
I give glory to God for all he has done in my life because I know there are many people out there who wish to be in my shoes. But my happiest moments are yet to come and I really look forward to it soon.
NIGERIA IS HOME REGARDLESS
Nigeria is my home and I love my country so I would definitely relocate to Nigeria. But America is like my second home and I would always come back for vacation.

The Police have confirmed that at least 46 persons were killed in the explosions that rocked Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Plateau Police Commissioner, Chris Olakpe, confirmed the casualty to journalists.
Mr. Olakpe also said at least 45 others were injured.
The casualty figure was confirmed after emergency officials took corpses of the dead to the hospital.
During the evacuation, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had said the casualty figure from the bomb explosions were ‘massive.’
The NEMA Coordinator for the North Central, Abdulsalam Abubakar, also said the explosive devices were placed in cars.
“I can’t tell you the figure of those killed by the blasts now, because we are still evacuating bodies from the scene,” Mr. Abubakar said.
“The only thing I can say is that the casualty figure is very massive. It is a catastrophe.
“The bombers parked the cars and left the explosives to detonate. It was in the market and at a peak period. So, you can only imagine what could have happened,’’ he added.
The NEMA official said dead bodies and mutilated human parts were being deposited at the old and new Jos University Teaching Hospitals, as well as the Plateau Special Hospital.
“There are also a massive number of people injured. We have conveyed some to various hospitals,’’ he said.
He said that an idea of the number of casualties was only possible after the rescue operation.
“We will have to first finish the operation and then visit the various hospitals. For now, we are only picking dead bodies all over the place,’’ Mr. Abubakar said.
The two explosive devices went off in a space of about 15 minutes at the Terminus Market, also known as Jos Main Market, between Railway Terminus and temporary site of the Jos University Teaching Hospital.

The rise of the civilians against terror took the Boko Haram saga to a new turn in the early hours of Tuesday morning when citizens of Rann, headquarters of Kala-Balge local government area, Borno northeast, who had fore-knowledge of an impending Boko Haram attack, decided not to remain sitting ducks but prepared for battle.
According to reports we received from Civilian sources in Borno, over 400 Boko Haram terrorists stormed Rann and neighboring villages in the early hours of Tuesday, with their usual convoy of hilux trucks, motorcycles and APC (Armored Personnel Carriers) only to meet villagers ready for them this time. The civilian villagers pounced on the terrorists with mere rocks, bows and arrows, local Dane guns, swords and “charms,” but as we have earlier reported, Boko Haram are more frightened of Civilian-JTF than they are of the Nigerian army, and run from the civilians even if they – the civilians only have knives
The battle raged till the sun came up and ended with the civilians killing over 200 Boko Haram terrorists, capturing several prisoners and recovering several of their vehicles.
From an account of a civilian who participated in defending the neighborhoods, as reported in DailyTrust, “Our people also recovered over 70 motorcycles that the attackers came with. They also collected 2 Hilux vehicles and an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) while some of the attackers were captured alive.” [Daily Trust]
This amazing victory of good over evil, promises a new direction in the war against terror that has wrecked hundreds of farming villages in the north of Nigeria in the last four years, largely unchecked by State security. Civilians determined to arrest a situation they believe the Nigerian security services has permitted to destroy their farming villages in various towns in the north east, have apparently decided take up a fighting posture against Boko Haram terrorists; no longer waiting for a military response that hardly ever comes.
Last week, Boko Haram terrorists ravaged Gondura Ngala town, freely without any hindrance from the Nigerian military drafted to the north, and decimated the entire town, killing over 300 residents. On April 14th, Boko Haram stormed Chibok and abducted over 200 girls. In that episode, Amnesty International reported that the Nigerian security services were fully informed of the impending attack, by civilian vigilantes and other Intel, several hours prior, yet did not alert or defend the village nor engage the terrorists for a full eight hours of the abduction, looting and destruction of the village.
A mother from Chibok reportedly told CNN, that “if the army is not ready to fight Boko Haram, then we will fight them ourselves.” Apparently that day has come.
The Civilian-JTF and ENDS.ng civil rights group is pressing the Nigerian government for the civilians to have the right and government support, to bear arms, to end the terror scourge once and for all. The government is yet to officially respond to this urgent request as villagers remain at the mercy of Boko Haram terrorists.
The Shehu of Bama is reported to have ordered his citizens to go get guns, after his town was completely decimated twice by Boko Haram terrorists with no military response for the full eight hours of carnage. More towns are expected to follow suit as the nations leadership sleeps and permits terrorists the largely unhindered freedom to operate, massacre and destroy Nigeria’s farmers and northern farming villages.

According to a CNN breaking news report, a new video purportedly showing at least 100 of the abducted Chibok girls has been obtained by AFP. The Boko Haram 27-minute video shows the girls alive and together, wearing Islamic Hijab headdress and reciting portions of the Quran. Those who said they have seen the video, including CNN reporters, say it seems the girls were speaking under duress.
In the video, Boko Haram leader Shekau said he’s willing to exchange the girls for its members in prison. The timeline of when the video was taken is unknown.

One of the parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls Sunday introduced a new twist to the saga surrounding the abduction of almost 300 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno State almost a month ago, when he said the students were locked up by their teachers who subsequently scampered for safety and left them at the mercy of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
Speaking to reporters from THISDAY and ARISE TV Networks, who were in Chibok Sunday for almost two hours, Watila Simon, the father of one of the girls, Godiya Simon, said though he was out of town when the insurgents laid siege to Chibok, he immediately made a phone call to his daughter, but was told that the school had not yet been attacked.
His daughter was one of the few girls who was fortunate to escape from the notorious Sambisa forest, the enclave of the terrorists.
He said: “I called my daughter in the school, asking, ‘Godiya where are you?’ She told me she was in the hostel. Then I said but they are attacking the town and they have started burning houses and you are still in the school, and she said yes.
“I asked, ‘Are you together with soldiers?’ She said no, and I asked about the police, and she said they were not with them, but that they were safe in the school.”
He revealed that when he spoke with Godiya, the insurgents were still attacking the town and had not gone to the school.
“She equally told me that all the teachers had already left and there was no elderly person with them,” he said.
Simon said it was on the realisation that there was no one guarding the school that he told his daughter to take to her heels if the opportunity arose.
“I told her once the insurgents finished with the people in the town, they would turn to the school and she should run.
“When the sound of gunshots started in the town, the teachers were still with them but they later took to their heels, locked them in and ran away,” he maintained, adding that “there are teachers’ quarters within the school premises where some teachers hid at the time of the attack”.
“She even told me that the teachers instructed them to stay put and not to run; then one of the teachers locked the gate so there was no way for them to escape.
“As I expected, when Boko Haram finished with the town, they came for the girls at the school. They told the girls to come with them, assuring them that they were soldiers and the girls believed them because they were in military uniforms. They were told that they would be protected from the insurgents who were attacking the town and would be safe.
“The girls believed and complied. They were then asked to bring all their mobile phones and it was then that they asked them to show them where the government property was sited in the school and they picked out some of the girls to show them.
“I knew that my daughter was in trouble immediately I called her and she was no longer picking her calls. This was further confirmed the next day when I called the people in town and they told me all our daughters had been carried away,” he said.
On his reunion with his daughter, he said: “I am happy and I prayed to God before her arrival. Since she got back, I have been having night vigils with members of my family.”
Narrating how she escaped from her abductors, Godiya informed THISDAY and ARISE that she and three other girls asked for permission to have a bathroom break and seized the opportunity to flee.
She revealed that after running for a distance, they were subsequently assisted by a Fulani herdsman.
She said before her escape, the insurgents had threatened to kill them and were not properly fed during her short time in captivity.
Also opening up on his experience, Rev. Enoch Mark who had two daughters abducted, said: “We ran into the bush on the night of the 14th April and in the morning, we returned but the gunmen were still in town.
“I learnt that one of my daughters had jumped out of the truck and got injured and this motivated me to run after them to retrieve her.
“I saw some of them with their vehicles broken down but I could not summon enough courage to approach them. I was warned by the people around that I should leave the place if I did not want to be gunned down since some of the insurgents were on trees and in surrounding bushes.”
He said they parked their vehicles all over and were in Chibok until 10.30 am the next day, “and because there was no help I was forced to come back”.
He further disclosed that the soldiers on the night of the attack were insufficient to match the number of the insurgents who attacked the town, attributing it to the reason the girls were captured.
“The soldiers were overwhelmed and had to flee,” the reverend said, insisting that had the soldiers been more in number and well equipped, the schoolgirls would not have been abducted.
Mark said owing to the lack of security operatives, Chibok residents had to appeal to vigilante groups who demanded some money, which was paid by parents to assist them go after the insurgents.
“But this yielded no result,” he said.

Find press release from the State house below;
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said Sunday in Abuja that he was very optimistic that with the entire international community deploying its considerable military and intelligence-gathering skills and assets in support of Nigeria’s efforts to find and rescue the abducted Chibok girls, success will soon be achieved.
Speaking in a telephone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu who called this afternoon to convey his country’s sympathy and solidarity with Nigeria, President Jonathan welcomed the offer by Mr. Netanyahu to send a team of Israeli counter-terrorism experts to assist in the ongoing search and rescue operations.
The President briefed Mr. Netanyahu on actions already being taken by Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies to locate and rescue the girls, saying that Nigeria would be pleased to have Israel’s globally-acknowledged anti-terrorism expertise deployed to support its ongoing operations.
Mr. Netanyahu who expressed Israel’s total condemnation of the mass abductions, said that the team of experts from his country who will soon arrive in Nigeria, will work in collaboration with teams from the United States and Britain who are already in the country and their Nigerian counterparts to intensify the search for the girls.
He reaffirmed Israel’s willingness to give the government and people of Nigeria all possible support and assistance to overcome terrorism and insecurity.

The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Reverend Felix Ajakaye, has advised the military against publicising its strategies against the Boko Haram insurgents.
Ajakaye gave the advice in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Abuja on the sideline of the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of Knights of St. John International, Commandery  574.
He expressed concern over the way the Nigerian military revealed sensitive anti-Boko Haram activities and plans in a bid to convince the public that “it was on top of the situation”.
He said that such information usually gave the insurgents the opportunity to re-strategise.
“We should mind what we say. Even as we are planning, we do not make strategies and reveal them on the pages of newspapers and electronic media.
“When the new chief of defence staff was appointed, he said insurgency in the country will end in April 2014.
“Even if he was planning towards it, he shouldn’t have made such a statement. Since then, the insurgency has continued to escalate.
“As foreign countries are coming to help with the Chibok kidnapping, it should have been done in a way that it wouldn’t alert those insurgents,” he said.
Ajakaye said that telling the public the number of insurgents captured or killed was also not proper.
He said also that there was the need for the government to ensure that its entire security agencies were motivated enough to tackle insurgency.

Some minutes ago, Joseph L Walker, a Briton took to twitter to vet his anger on their Prime Minister, David Cameron for carrying the #BringBackOurGirls play card for the abducted Chibok school girls.
Amazingly, he told the Prime Minister to act and do something real about the abducted Chibok School girls instead of carrying the playcard.
He expressed his anger after seeing the Prime Minister and CNN’s Christiane Amanpour holding the #bringbackourgirls protest placard.
Obviously, Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan is acting on this devilish abduction of Chibok School girls by Boko Haram.
Following reports that suspected Boko Haram members hijacked a school bus this morning and kidnapped school children in Karu and Nyanya areas of Abuja went viral.
The rumor had it that two schools were invaded – Ave Maria and Vine International Academy.
However, here is the true story, Ave Maria was not involved. The school proprietor of Ave Maria confirmed on phone that their school wasn’t involved. But at Vine International Academy in Nyanya, their school bus was taken this morning by gunmen.
Vine Interntional school’s proprietress confirmed the gunmen tried to enter her school but eventually couldn’t. And NO child was taken away by them. Just their school bus.
Yoruba actress Ronke Ojo popularly known as Ronke Oshodi Oke, has explained why she and her husband don’t live together…despite the fact that they both live in Lagos. Ronke’s husband, Anthony Gbolahan, who she married in January 2009, lives in Surulere, while Ronke lives in Ijaiye, Lagos. Explaining the arrangement, Ronke said the reason she doesn’t live in Surulere with her husband is because the area is too populated. She refuted reports that they live apart because their marriage is in trouble…
“If you have a partner or spouse who is
your friend, you will understand each other very well. Fine, I am a reserved person and on the other hand I am also into showbiz. So for me to manage these things, you have to be in a reserved person. For instance when you are going out or coming in, nobody knows your movement. Secondly I am
friendly but I don’t really like crowd. My
husband likes Surulere, he is a Surulere
person. I like surburbs like Abule-Egba,
Ijaiye area and so on. So both of us know
how to manage the situation. Continue…
Whenever I say I am going to Surulere, I
just go there to catch fun, see people and
things I love to see. But the fact remains
even if I am in Surulere, people don’t really
know I am there because I don’t go out. I
am not an outgoing person. Most of the
events you see me, its either I am invited as
a Master of Ceremony or the celebrant is
my friend. Anytime I don’t go out and I am not on set, I go to my husband’s place in Surulere and he understands me very well.
All these kidnappings here and there, one
needs to be very careful. When they kidnap
your child and they say they need ransom,
what would you do? So we know how we
manage the situation. He also comes to
Ijaiye where I live. That’s where my mum
lives” she said.
When asked if her marriage was in trouble as
being speculated, she responded;
“There is nothing wrong with my marriage.
That’s how people are just feeling.
Recently City People magazine celebrated
me. I received an award. My husband was
there with me. So if there was anything
wrong with our union, would he be there?
Things like that you can’t hide them from
the public. I just believe people only like
fabricating issues for whatever reason or
reasons best known to them” she said
